Mobile Toilet Block for Sale: Offers Invited

Offers are invited for the purchase of the Show’s mobile toilet block. Some electrical and plumbing work required to bring it back to its full functionality. Running gear will also require some work. Buyer responsible for removal from the show field.

Currently stored in one of our sheds at the Cunningsburgh Show Field. To organise a viewing please email darren@cunningsburghshow.com or telephone 01950 318046.

Office Bearer & Committee Update

The Cunningsburgh and Districts Agricultural Society AGM was held on Monday 6 February.

Re-elected were Alex Dodge as President, Darren Johnson and Kirsty Budge as Vice Presidents, Abigail Robertson as Secretary and Aimee Budge as Treasurer. Mavis Thomson stood down as secretary. A role that she has undertaken for 25 years. In this time, she has seen many changes, going from everything being handwritten to the digital age.

President Alex Dodge presented Mavis with a gift and a bouquet of flowers as a mark of appreciation for all her hard work. Mavis also received a certificate and a gift marking her 40 years on the committee.

Pamela Halcrow who joined the committee in 1975 has decided it is time for her to retire. Thanks will be extended to Pamela who will be greatly missed by fellow committee members.

Certificates were also presented to Kenneth MacKenzie, Anne Nicolson, Alex Dodge for 24 years, Doreen Smith for 21 years and Robin Hunter for 20 years service on the committee.

The show date was confirmed as Wednesday 9th August 2023.

The committee would like to thank everyone who made this year’s show a success.

We would like to thank those who helped erect/dismantle our field in poor weather and helped with car parking, in particular: Andrew Nicolson, Alan Adamson, David Adamson, Sam Pearson, Stuart Downing, Shetland Young Farmers and the TA Cadets.  

Thanks to all outlets for supplying schedules, and to the judges and stewards who tended to 1871 entries; all our sponsors including our main sponsor A Jarmson Shetland Ltd; gate keepers, candy floss makers, raffle tickets sellers & the First Aiders; Wilma Thomson who cleaned all 123 trophies and Robin Hunter who presented them. Also thanks to MC Liam Brannan who stepped in at short notice and all who participated in the Shetland Neuk.

For making the Show a good visitor experience we thank the 70+ tradestands, and to those who took vintage tractors to the show. Thank you to Joan Smith for organising the sports and Cee & Jays for sponsoring the medals.  For children’s entertainments we would like to thank, SCYC, Hame fae Hame and the Shetland Family Centre. Thanks to those who donated raffle prizes.

Finally, a big thank you to the exhibitors who produced an excellent array of exhibits and the visiting public for making all the effort worthwhile. Hope to see you all in 2023.

Find out what’s where at the 76th Cunningsburgh Show, sponsored by A Jarmson Shetland.

Spectators are encouraged to watch the livestock judging from 10am. Dog judging is in the cattle ring at 1.30pm.The Showyard Champion judging will be held in the cattle ring at 3pm. The trophy presentation will take place at 4pm.

The Bigton Samba Band will be playing at 1.30pm followed by live music in the Neuk provided by Cunningsburgh sisters Jenna & Hannah, and then Peter Hutchison & friends.

Sports commence at the football pitch at 2pm where the quickest time for the show mile will win a £100 LHD voucher. The Cunningsburgh History Group hut will be open from 12-4pm.

Important – Visitor Access Information

Free visitor parking is to the south of the show huts, please follow the direction of the car parking stewards. The hall car park is reserved for disabled parking. Please do not park on the hard shoulder of the main road as this is a road safety issue, there is plenty of closer parking available. There will be a 30mph speed limit on the main road past the showfield from 6am to 6pm on Wednesday.

The gates open at 8am, most livestock judging starts at 10am which spectators are encouraged to attend. Indoor exhibit judging also commences at 10am, huts are closed to the public for this but reopen as soon as judging is complete.

Cash and cards will be accepted on the gate. Adults £7, children 5 to 16 £2, under 5’s free.

Purchase your show admission ticket(s) for this years show, to be held on Wednesday 10th August, online at www.cunningsburghshow.com for the chance to win a £100 voucher for the LHD shop, very kindly donated by SSE Renewables.

Only admission tickets bought online qualify as entry to the prize draw. The winner will be drawn at random after the show.

All admission tickets, including the family tickets, already bought online will be included in the prize draw.
